Article: FROM A DESIGNER’S MIND

FROM A DESIGNER’S MIND

FROM A DESIGNER’S MIND

Have you ever wondered just how are designers able to imagine and create prints and designs out of nowhere? Do you have multiple “how’s” about designing lined up and unanswered? This might just be the article for you. In this article, we tell you the process that our designers follow, or go through.

STEP 1 – THE INSPIRATION

Selecting an inspiration is any designer’s starting point. This could be just about anything in the world – an actual object or just a concept. Inspiration can be drawn from culture to architecture, flora, fauna, etc. Each designer has their own way of looking at an object, some may use the colors of their topic of inspiration, while some may use the shapes and forms.

STEP 2 – THE EXPLORATION

Once the topic of inspiration is decided, it’s time to explore it. The narrative of your inspiration tells your story. Look at the colors, the shapes, the emotions it evokes. Once you start thinking in this direction, you will open a Pandora’s chest of possibilities and ideas that you can create using one simple object or idea. Using all your senses and putting it into your imagination creates your design.

STEP3 – THE SHORTLISTING

It’s easy to get lost into the rabbit hole of ideas once they start coming out, even get overwhelmed by it. Put all your discarded sketches and ideas together and do the mind-mapping to link the story in each frame. Question each element of the design, as to what role it has to play, and if it conveys the story that in mind.

STEP 4 – THE REFINEMENT

Once the final selection of ideas is complete, look at how an element can be improved so it easily conveys the message to the consumer. This happens to be the final stage before the designs come to life; being able to imagine the final product and what changes may be required, are the questions asked by designer to themselves.

STEP 5 – THE CONFIDENCE

Each designer has their own way of working, there’s no one defined system in which they’re expected to work, no defined boundaries within which the thought must lie. Be proud of your creations and ideas, there’s no better or worse when it comes to art – it’s a definition of who you are.

Enjoy the whole process because it is a beautiful journey which makes it memorable for you.

And this, is how we create beautifully crafted collections, just for you!
